Coronavirus Update

GSC Coronavirus Statement

Outdoor Performances

(updated 05 August 2020)

As announced by the UK Government, from 11 July 2020 event organisers including theatre producers are allowed to stage outdoor events with the general public present, subject to the science and with safety measures in place. In line with the advice from the Public Health England, Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport, Guildford Borough Council and Events Industry Forum, we have put in place the protective measures below. This is to minimise the risk to staff, artists and audiences who work at and attend our outdoor events by reducing the risk of infection and transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

(first published 19 March, updated 25 March)

We are in unprecedented times and we have been closely monitoring the advice of the UK Government, Public Health England and UK Theatres. We have also been listening to our colleagues, artists and audiences.

As an unfunded arts organisation that supports the livelihoods of many people, it is imperative that we take balanced and informed steps to ensure not only public health but also the future of GSC.

Therefore, in the light of the latest updates from the UK Government, and in consultation with our staff and Trustees, we have taken the difficult but ultimately inevitable decision to postpone our April events celebrating Shakespeare’s Birthday.

Specific details as follows:

Measure the Merry Night – Young Company presents (19-20 April)

These performances will be postponed until w/c 17 August. Specific dates to be announced.

Troilus & Cressida (23 April)

This event will be postponed until 2021’s Birthday Bash.

Sonnet Walk Weekend IX (25-26 April)

Our plan is to postpone this event until December 2020, when we will be creating a special Festive themed event based on the Sonnet Walk format. Specific dates to be announced.

Tickets

We will be contacting those people who have already booked tickets for these events individually, please bear with us. Please do not call the Box Office at this time.

Summer 2020

At present the Annual Open-Air Season in June and July is going ahead as scheduled. We will be monitoring this situation closely over the next month.

GSC Office

GSC will continue to function in spite of the many challenges ahead, and the core team will continue to operate office hours wherever feasible from home. Please do not call the Office number 01483 301590 as there is no-one there. If your call is urgent you can contact Matt or Sarah on 07971 234141 or 07957 440866. If your query is regarding Education or Outreach, call Ant Stones on 07956 000759. Thank you.

The health, both physically and mentally, and safety of our audiences, participants and staff are our primary concern, and we will continue follow any recommendations from the relevant authorities and implement all appropriate instructions accordingly. We ask everyone to continue to be vigilant with regards to their own health and ensure they follow the suggested protocols.

Sharing great stories and enriching lives is our passion, and we will endeavour to continue doing so during this time of upheaval, so please keep an eye on our social media pages and website. We have some exciting ideas to keep you engaged over the coming weeks.

Thank you all for your understanding, patience and messages of goodwill. We are in extraordinary times, but as the many messages we have been receiving show, none of us are alone in this situation, and the more we work together the sooner we will come out the other side.

Social isolation is a very difficult thing to cope with, especially when you are dealing with things that we have no rule-book for. So please, keep in touch with each other – a phone call or a video chat will make a huge difference.

On behalf of everyone at GSC,

Look after yourselves and your loved ones, and we’ll see you again very soon in the sunshine!
