"Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale"
A cold autumn evening, the slate grey streets awash with leaves and rain.
A young girl, her worldly belongings in a small rucksack, takes refuge in an old church. In her hands she cradles her only friend. Into this solitary world comes a warm-hearted gentleman. Together, and with the help of a box of matches, they ignite their imaginations and take us on a musical journey of discovery full of light and laughter.
The tales of Hans Christian Andersen are some of the most-treasured stories we have all grown up with: The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match-Girl, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Princess and the Pea, Thumbelina... the list is endless, and their delight continues.
This autumn we're bringing seven of them to life in a brand new stage adaptation with original music and lyrics, in the evocative setting of Guildford's St Nicolas' Church.
Our latest show reunites the team behind our 5-STAR Grimms' Fairy Tales: director CHARLOTTE CONQUEST, GSC's associate playwright ANT STONES, composer TOM JACK MERIVALE, lighting designer MARK DYMOCK and sound designer MATT EATON. With them are set and costume designer NEIL IRISH and INDIANA LOWN-COLLINS as movement director.
