"the magic of Charlotte Conquest’s production will stay with us for a very long time."British Theatre Guide
The Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina, The Little Match-Girl, The Emperor's New Clothes, The Princess and the Pea: the tales of Hans Christian Andersen are some of the most-treasured stories we have all grown up with, and this Autumn we're bringing seven of them to life in a brand new musical.
Rediscover the feel-good joy of these timeless stories, and experience a couple of new ones in The Darning Needle and The Puppet Showman.
A young girl takes refuge in an old church. In her hands she cradles her only friend. Into this solitary world comes a warm-hearted gentleman. With the help of a box of matches, they ignite their imaginations and with every strike of a match we are transported into a different tale taking us on a magical, musical adventure.
This brand new musical adaptation features original music and lyrics, staged in the evocative setting of Guildford's St Nicolas' Church.
Here's an exclusive snippet of the beautiful 'Thumbelina's Lullaby' written by Tom Jack Merivale, sung by Annabelle Terry (recorded live in St Nicolas' Church. 37 secs)
Our latest show reunites the team behind our 5-STAR Grimms' Fairy Tales: director CHARLOTTE CONQUEST, GSC's associate playwright ANT STONES, composer TOM JACK MERIVALE, lighting designer MARK DYMOCK and sound designer MATT EATON. With them are set and costume designer NEIL IRISH and INDIANA LOWN-COLLINS as movement director.
Join us for an enchanting experience as we bring these classic fantasy stories colourfully to life for all ages.
