AS YOU LIKE IT 2013

We’d last staged As You Like It in 2008, set in the swinging 60s. This time director Tom Littler, for whom this was the start of his long association with the company, transported us to the summer of 1913.
Emily Davison had just made her fatal protest at the Epsom Derby and Rosalind and Celia were fully fledged members of the Suffragette Movement. With a wrestling ring in front of Brabeouf Manor, the audiences followed them and the music hall inspired clown Touchstone on to the terraced lawns for the Forest of Arden.
Dame Penelope Keith also lent her voice to the show as the Goddess of Hymen at the end, making for a truly elegiac staging of this summer favourite.
“That's two more youngsters in the world hooked on Shakespeare. We talked about the play all the way home.” Audience Member
“Where would summer be without the hilarious comedies produced by GSC.” Audience Member
“You're one of the reasons I love living in Guildford.” Audience Member
