SCHOOL RESIDENCES

Our free-to-access residences in local schools support curriculum learning and give pupils an opportunity to explore Shakespeare and express themselves creatively.

Our current residencies are made possible by a generous gift from The Wrentham Trust

IN OUR STARS

In Our Stars provides a chance for Young Carers to connect with others in a similar situation and interact with other members of their year group.

“I get to enjoy time doing something I love, with people that I don’t get to usually talk to.” Participant

We are offering these funded after-school sessions at George Abbott School. Participants work on a variety of drama exercises, games and scene-work, taking inspiration from GSC’s main productions. We have also been able to arrange trips to see theatre shows with tickets generously donated by our sponsors.

Estimates suggest that as many as 20% of children aged 5 to 18 in many areas of Guildford act as carers. The incredible sacrifice these young people make, often goes unrecognised and hidden. Responsibilities for Young Carers may include looking after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem. They may give a lot of physical help to a parent or sibling with little time for respite.

“It’s really fun and you get to use your imagination and creativity.” Participant

“I got to meet other people I wouldn’t normally meet.” Participant

SPEAK THE SPEECH

Speak The Speech provides free-to-access workshops at Guildford Grove Primary School and Weyfield Primary Academy. We work with all children in years 3-6, providing a six-week course for each class. Pupils are taken through the plot and context of a Shakespeare play, recreating scenes and blending the children’s own words with quotes from Shakespeare’s original text.

“We absolutely love working with the GSC and, once again, the quality of the performances and workshops is unparalleled. It’s all the children can talk about.” Guildford Grove Primary School.

A TIME FOR ALL THINGS

A Time For All Things is our on-going funded-to-access residency at Alderwood Senior School, Bishop David Brown, and Christ's College Guildford. The programme is created in close collaboration with members of the teaching staff, to ensure each class studies Shakespeare in a practical and effective way, as they the build-up to their GCSEs

"The whole experience was full of love, passion and energy and was a great reminder of why live theatre is so, so important!" Head of English, King's College
