RICHARD III 2012
10 - 25 February
"a truly invigorating experience" The Public Reviews
The start of Olympic year saw us tackle our first of Shakespeare’s history plays – Richard III. Director Caroline Devlin and Designer Neil Irish embraced the drama of the 15th century The Wars of the Roses with a modern grunge angle – fur coats and jewellery and debauched revelling clashed with crowns, swords and gauntlets.
Our staging in Holy Trinity Church saw our largest installation to date with flying gantries over the choir stalls and set of steps leading up to the pulpit/throne that bled. The final climactic Battle of Bosworth took place in and around the audience as well as on stage.
We also had a visit from best-selling historian Alison Weir who gave a post-matinee talk about Richard and the Princes in the Tower.
