DIRECTING MASTERCLASS

Join director Zoë Waterman for an in-depth directing workshop weekend.

This two-day session offers a unique opportunity to explore the artistic and technical demands of creating powerful theatre. Drawing on her wealth of experience, Zoë will examine both the challenges and creative freedoms of directing, working with a range of play texts including Shakespeare and contemporary playwrights.

Participants will explore:

  • The craft of sustaining dramatic tension on stage
  • Techniques for developing and building compelling characters
  • Physical and vocal approaches to performance
  • The director–actor relationship within the rehearsal process
  • Structuring rhythm, space, and silence in minimalist staging
  • Process from idea to press night, including their relationships with the creative team

This Masterclass is ideal for those interested in gaining hands-on directing experience, as well as theatre-makers seeking a deeper understanding of narrative embodiment and theatrical transformation.

Zoë was previously the Associate Director of the New Vic Theatre Stoke. Her recent credits include Bolton Octagon, Hull Truck, Theatre by the Lake, and GSC’s two secondary school tours of Macbeth. She has also assisted Lucy Pittman-Wallace on Much Ado About Nothing (Sweden), Lucy Bailey on King Lear (Bath Theatre Royal) and Gregory Doran on The Orphan of Zhao (RSC).

Includes a standard ticket to see Love's Labour's Lost on Saturday 18th July, with an option to see Much Ado About Nothing for an additional £30 on Friday 17th July 7.30pm.
