A MIDSUMMER NIGHT' DREAM 2012

 12 - 22 July

Director Charlotte Conquest wanted to give this production of A Midsummer Night's Dream (our second) a modern flavour. Taking inspiration from traveller communities, the Fairies were given a nomadic, magpie-like quality. From hoovering the grass to watching the weather on TV, these fairies were urbanites… with a lot of blue paint. Yes the love potion was applied in the form of blue paint being wiped on to the lovers, so that by the time the they leave the forest they hardly resembled the people they once were.

Staged in the grounds of the Guildford College of Law, The Mechanicals were the groundskeepers of Theseus’ house where the wedding is taking place, with the final play within the play being staged in front of the manor house.

Despite the wettest summer for 100 years, our audiences still left singing and dancing!
