“Bloody thou art, and bloody will be thy end…”

Richard craves power - pure, absolute power… and he will stop at nothing to get it.

But as the body count rises and his friends desert him, the web of terror Richard has weaved begins to ensnare its diabolical maker…

Following our widely acclaimed production of Hamlet in February 2011, director Caroline Devlin returns to the magnificent Holy Trinity Church, with Shakespeare’s thrilling story of terror and deceit. With their trademark style of site-specific invention and infectious energy, be prepared to find yourself right at the heart of a savage world of ambition and bloody lust for power.

GSC is holding a number of ‘fringe’ events to complement the stage production of Richard III.

Richard’s Women - this event has now finished
Thursday 19th January, 7pm – 9pm

Richard III, though dominated by its ruthless central character, contains four incredible female characters - Lady Anne, Duchess of York, Queen Margaret and Queen Elizabeth – who seem to dwarf the power-hungry hunchback whenever they are on stage. As a pre-cursor to the production GSC are staging in February at Holy Trinity Church, we will examine their role in the play, the effect they have on Richard and our response to the play.

Tickets: £10.50 (£9.50 Concs.)
Venue: Guildford Institute
Call: 01483 562142 (not GSC)

GSC Friends Night - this event has now finished (see pics on Facebook!)
Monday 30th January, 6.30pm – 8pm (FREE for GSC Friends only)

At this exclusive event GSC Friends will be able to meet the cast and the creative team straight after that day’s rehearsals. Over a glass of wine and few nibbles, GSC Friends will find out about the show, the design ideas and how the actors are getting on with learning all those lines!

Richard III: The Man and the Myths with Alison Weir - this event has now finished
Pre-matinee talk from best-selling author Alison Weir
Saturday 18th February, 1pm (FREE Event)

No English king inspires so much controversy as Richard III. With opinions starkly polarised as to his character and his culpability in the disappearance of his nephews, the Princes in the Tower, the debate has raged for five centuries. William Shakespeare based his play Richard III on Tudor perceptions of the last Plantagenet King – but were they, in turn, based on facts? Alison Weir, author of the best-selling book The Princes in the Tower, compares the historical Richard with Shakespeare’s villain and poses the question: was he the tyrant of the play, or one of the most misunderstood figures in history? Includes book-signing.
