This summer we’re celebrating our fifth (and longest!) summer of professional open-air Shakespeare in Guildford, and we’d be delighted if you would join us.
Following last summer’s most popular season to date (“Guildford Shakespeare Company are magic” Surrey Advertiser), and hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed Romeo and Juliet in February (“Magnificent” The Shakespeare Revue, “Exhilarating” The Stage), we are returning with two more fabulous al fresco treats:
Love's Labour's Lost
Thursday 17 June - Saturday 3 July Guildford Castle Grounds
Evenings 7.30pm (Mon 21 June 7pm) No Perfs. Sundays
No sooner have the King of Navarre and his friends vowed to undertake three years of study, forswearing all forms pleasure, when the beautiful Princess of France and her equally attractive female attendants arrive at court, throwing all scholarly devotion into chaos. Soon the frustrations of the love-struck lords and ladies spills out into the local town, so begins Shakespeare’s dazzling celebration of young love, bursting with colour, engrossing wit, and glorious word play. Directed by Simon Usher.
The Tempest
Thursday 22 July - Saturday 7 August University of Surrey Lake
Evenings 7.30pm (Saturday Matinees 2.30pm) No Perfs. Sundays
As a violent storm rages, a ship caught in its ravages, is blown inextricably toward a small island, populated by just four people: a father and daughter, a spirit, and a beast. To the survivors of the storm all seems well at first, but on this island not everything is as it seems… Shakespeare’s epic tale of magic and power, fittingly staged at the stunning University of Surrey Lake, will be GSC’s landmark 10th production. Directed by Hannah Chissick.
Whatever you do, don’t miss our most exciting season yet!
